Rizzle Kicks are a household name. You don’t need to be a fan of them to know at least one of their songs. With tracks such as Down With The Trumpets, Mama Do The Hump and Skip To The Good Bit receiving plenty of radio play throughout the early 2010s, their music became a familiar part of the decade’s soundtrack.
I’ve Been Sleeping On Rizzle Kicks
The release of Livin’ the Dream, which came out this June 2026, has seen me enter into a newfound love and appreciation for the duo. I was, of course, aware of their hits, especially back in my teenage years, but this August has witnessed me rinse Livin’ the Dream on repeat, with a minimum of two listens a day, making it only fitting that I give it this month’s Song of the Month choice. I’ve also taken the time to embark on more of a Rizzle Kicks deep-dive, which is something that’s gotten me into better spirits, even when I’ve not been feeling my most chipper.
What’s Not to Love About a Good Feel-Good Anthem?
It starts with “24-7, 3-6-5 mate” — a statement that I’ve become oh so familiar with this past month. The energy of this track hits hard throughout, with a vitality that feels euphoric. As a huge fan of ad-libs in songs, I can tell you now that the ad-libs in Livin’ the Dream make me very happy, adding a sense of humour and bringing a smile to my face. The chorus, with its catchy “gang gang gang gang”, has me hooked. The entire number radiates positivity, and the way I see it, this song is helping to rewire my brain by firing off all the right neurons.
Last thing to mention — and you have to have listened to the track to understand this — but I would love to know who Pat and Johnny are. It’s a mystery to me, and I’m intrigued!
